Ladies, if you plan on taking a little test drive before you OFFICIALLY hit the road in your vehicles this Sunday- we’ve got a little warning for you. It has been announced by traffic department sources that women who are seen driving before June 24 is susceptible to fines that range between SAR500 to SAR900.
According to Saudi Gazette, under the Article 77 of the traffic law, women are subject to penalisation if they hand over the wheel to a person without the driver’s license.
So be very wary!
The Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques King Salman issued a decree last September that allows women to drive in Saudi Arabia. Many other progressive steps towards the decree have already been implemented, such as; designated parking spaces for women, caution boards addressing women and driving institutes specifically for women by women.
It’s basically a woman’s world!
Contrary to many social media rumours, women the age of 18 and above are actually eligible to obtain their private and public driving licenses. Anyone who is seventeen years of age can obtain a temporary driving document, on the other hand.
The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Labor and Social Development have also agreed that female violators be kept in women care facilities as temporary detention centres. The entire place will be fully run by women staff.
