The oil company, Aramco, has launched an amazing new campaign to grow one million trees in the Kingdom’s Eastern Region. The campaign is in line with Saudi’s National Transformation Program by 2020.
The initiative is being done in order to preserve the Kingdom’s natural resources. They’re going to plant 26 types of trees and seedlings that don’t take up huge amounts of water.
In a report by Al Arabiya, Aramco stated that the trees with proper characteristics that would suit Saudi’s dry weather, like Al Sammar, Al Badal, al Salam and Al Talh and ones that don’t require a lot of water.
“Saudi Arabia, with its desert climate, is home to many unique environments that demand high care. So we are keen to ensure that our initiative of planting one million trees by 2025 has five elements to enhance sustainability and quality of life.”

Nasser added that he new technology and process of these trees will reduce the needed amounts of irrigation water by up to 70%. Besides that, the trees will also create a shield that will reduce the effects of sandstorms. These trees will also help improve the environment for suitable outdoor activities such as hiking, walking and exercising.
