After days of speculation, Saudi media has confirmed citing government officials that Jamal Khashoggi is dead.
According to Arab News, a preliminary investigation of the Jamal Khashoggi case has revealed that the journalist died following a fistfight at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
The Saudi foreign ministry reports citing the public prosecutortl that 18 Saudis in connection with the incident have been arrested.
Saudi Arabia has also released an official statement saying that “The Kingdom expresses its deep regret at the painful developments that have taken place and stresses the commitment of the authorities in the Kingdom to bring the facts to the public opinion, to hold all those involved accountable and bring them to justice.”
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has ordered the creation of a ministerial committee to restructure the Kingdom’s General Intelligence agency and issue the results of the investigations within a month.

In the wake of this incident, several high profile governmental officials have been removed from their posts including deputy intelligence chief, Ahmed Al-Asiri and Saud Al-Qahtani who is an advisor to Royal Court, among other intelligence officials.
Saudi Arabia has promised a transparent investigation and a team of Saudi investigators in Istanbul is working with Turkish detectives on the case.
