Billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has been released from detention after nearly two months of custody in the kingdom’s crackdown on corruption.
His release came hours after he told international press that he expected to be cleared of any wrongdoing and be released from custody within days.
The terms of his release were not immediately clear but it has been reported that he had stated that he will be maintaining full control of his global investment firm Kingdom Holding Co. without being required to give up assets to the government, according to Reuters.
He was granted a 30-minute interview with Reuters earlier this week which included a tour of his suite which disproved rumors of mistreatment and of being moved from the hotel to a prison.
After being released, Prince Alwaleed said, he plans to continue living in Saudi Arabia and to return to the challenge of juggling his global business interests.
“I will not leave Saudi Arabia, for sure. This is my country. I have my family, my children, my grandchildren here. I have my assets here. My allegiance is not on the table.”
