On October 1st, Arena Riyadh hosted the launch of the BYD SHARK 6, BYD’s first plug-in hybrid pickup truck (PHEV), marking a new milestone in the Kingdom’s automotive scene. Its exterior features LED through-type lights, a sleek body, and a bold rear design. With dimensions of 5457mm in length, 1971mm in width, and 1925mm in height, it stands larger than most competitors. The pickup is available in four nature-inspired colors: Atlantis Gray, Snowy White, Deep Black, and Gray-Green. Inside, the SHARK 6 offers a premium SUV-like cabin with a 12.8″ adaptive rotating screen, a 10.25″ LCD panel, and a futuristic console. Front seats are ventilated and heated, while the rear benefits from a flat floor and 880.4mm of legroom, ensuring first-class comfort for passengers.

Performance and technology are at the heart of the SHARK 6 experience. Powered by BYD’s DMO Super Hybrid Off-road Platform

The pickup delivers 430+ HP—equivalent to a 4.0L V8—and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. It offers a combined range of 840 km, including 100 km of pure electric driving. Off-road capability is enhanced by intelligent electric 4WD, ultra-fast torque response, and electronic center lock. Safety features include the ultra-safe Blade Battery and CTC technology for structural strength. Double wishbone independent suspension ensures comfort levels that rival luxury SUVs.

The SHARK 6 also introduces smart features rarely seen in pickups. Its intelligent cockpit supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, advanced voice control, Spotify, karaoke, and navigation apps. Driving assistance includes a Level 2 system with ten features such as automatic emergency braking, intelligent cruise, and lane change warning. A 540° camera provides 360° and 180° undercarriage views for safer navigation, while a HUD projects speed, navigation, and safety alerts directly onto the windshield.

Beyond technology, the SHARK 6 is designed for lifestyle and functionality. Ten storage compartments make everyday convenience effortless, while the vehicle-to-load (VTOL) function turns the truck into a mobile power station capable of supporting coffee machines, BBQs, or even an outdoor cinema. The pickup promises a quiet ride with smooth gear transitions, elevating comfort to a level rare for its class.

During the launch, Jerome Saigot, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim BYD in Saudi Arabia, spoke about the inspiration behind the SHARK 6

“The SHARK 6 is bringing a lot of new technology, a lot of new innovation. Today we are launching SHARK 6 in Saudi Arabia. We are opening a new segment. SHARK 6 is bringing the DMO technology, which is actually outstanding and breakthrough technology. And I’m personally convinced that we are going to please a lot of customers. Because when you sit in a SHARK 6, you will enjoy a new driving experience. It’s a car which is delivering a lot of opportunities, a lot of capabilities. And we are welcoming all the customers to test drive the cars and to enjoy the BYD product.”

On the DMO technology, Saigot added: “It’s a new technology that’s been developed by BYD. BYD is not a normal car company. BYD is a tech company. And with DMO, the dual model of Ford, we are offering a lot of possibilities to the customers to drive anywhere they want in the kingdom. And that’s magic.”

When asked about target markets for the SHARK 6, Saigot said: “I have one single reply everywhere, Everywhere.”

The SHARK 6 launch attracted notable attendees, including Mohamed Chaker, reflecting strong interest in the Kingdom for innovative, hybrid pickup technology.
