A sandy situation took place in Riyadh’s annual camel beauty pageant this year, as Reutersreports that disqualifications occurred to those who used botox on their camels- to beautify them. A male audience watched from the bleachers as judges examined each camels’ eyes, nose, cheeks and knees.
Around 12 camels were disqualified in this year’s pageant because owners used Botox on them to appear more aesthetically pleasing. One of the main judges of the popular ‘camel beauty contest’, Fawzan al-Madi, told Reuters that the camel is a symbol of Saudi Arabia. He further added “We used to preserve it out of necessity, not we preserve it as a pastime.”
Each with different sets of camels to judge and different locations around the Kingdom. The month- long festival can even sell camels for millions of riyals, not counting the souvenirs being sold, mik-tasting, food stalls and more.
