IMAX is a kind of cinema technology that displays images of far greater size and resolution than conventional film systems. From the sound to the picture, everything is bigger, louder and better.  In short, it gives a better overall movie experience.

According to The Independent, IMAX is close to sealing a deal that could see it open cinemas in the Kingdom soon.

IMAX’s chief executive, Richard Gelfond, said that he hopes to open up to 20 theatres within the next 3 years in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking to CNBC, Gelfond said, “We’ve heard rumblings for the past year that this was going to happen.”

“For the size of this market, there’s a big opportunity,” said Gelfond. “Since the market is not that price sensitive, and likes premium luxury goods, this will be a strong market for IMAX.”

But it is not the only cinema giant that is on the verge of opening cinemas, cinema chains like VOX, AMC and Reel Cinemas are also expected to open cinemas in the country now that the 35-year-old ban has been lifted. Saudi Arabia is expected to have its first movie screens by the coming March.
