Avatar

A Saudi middle school student, Talah F. Abualnaja, has created a new Arabic writing system for the visually impaired.

Talah’s curiosity about the struggles that the visually impaired face began after she enrolled in a school that integrated visually impaired in a public schooling system, reports Arab News.

After speaking to her visually impaired classmates, she started exploring their writing systems

She has now created a new writing system that is different from braille as it requires smaller spacing when printing, resulting in smaller books than braille.

She has applied for a patent and is waiting to receive it.
