A festival to celebrate their unique heritage has been ongoing in Saudi Arabia and it is attracting a LOT of

The festival, that is running through August, has been providing visitors with a vivid experience of the history of the flowermen through an open-air museum, live folk performances, art and poetry nights and a heritage market.

Natives of remote mountainous town near the Saudi-Yemen border named Alhabla, the Flowermen take their name from the crowns and headpieces made out of native flowers and grass.

They are mainly worn to mark public or religious holidays, although some choose to crown their heads with herbs and greenery for medicinal purposes.

Today the Flowermen have become a domestic tourist and cultural attraction, performing their unique rituals for visitors against the backdrop of beautiful and untouched landscapes of the region.

The festival is part of the Saudi Seasons initiative, run by the Saudi Commission for Tourism. As the Kingdom prepares to open to international tourists, events like the Flowermen Festival will become increasingly recognised on the global cultural calendar and will welcome and delight more visitors each year.
