The 13 winners of the 40th King Abdulaziz International competition for memorizing, reciting and interpreting Quran were honored during a ceremony on Wednesday.

Prince Faisal bin Salman, Governor of Medina, sponsored the ceremony and honored the winners at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, where the competition was being held.

The contest was split into four categories with three winners selected for each category

Winners received prizes ranging from SR250,000 to SR 20,000 and were from all over the world – including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Nigeria, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Serbia.

Prince Faisal said the prize represents how blessed Saudi Arabia is for honoring the Quran’s people around the world through this competition

He also stressed on King Salman’s “unlimited support” for those who memorize the Holy Quran.

This is the first time the competition took place in the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, as opposed to the Grand Mosque in Makkah, where the competition has been held for the last 39 years.

115 contestants from 82 different countries participated in the competition this year.
