IMPORTANT REMINDER: Women’s Gyms Are Not Allowed To Share Footage Of Women Exercising On Social Media

Avatar

Saudi Arabia has recently been supporting women’s involvement in sports in the country for a while now and there is no denying that.

It is still important to note, however, that there are still certain restrictions and cultural sensitivities that must be kept in consideration

Sports authoritiesordered the closure of a women’s gym in Riyadh after a video of a woman exercising there was shared on social media. It showed a woman working out in leggings and a tank-top.

The General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia soon announced that the weekend that the gym’s license had been suspended and the woman in the video had been fired from her job as a trainer.

It’s important to keep Saudi Arabia’s cultural sensitivities in mind before sharing content on social media.

Under Saudi cybercrime law, publishing material through social media that is “inconsistent with public order or morality or religious values” is a crime.
