A man who married four wives over a period of three years may be stuck in a rut now that all FOUR women want to get a divorce (khul). According to the Khaleej Times, the women reportedly told authorities that he would treat the women so horribly on purpose that eventually lead them all to a breaking point.
The scheming husband would reporedly boast about not having given the dowry to any of the four wives. However as per Shariah law, when the woman asks for a divorce, her full dowry (mahr) would have to be returned to her husband- in full.
The man was actually going to continue with his scheming until a judicial official spoke to one of the wives informing her of history of wives demanding a divorce. The official then counselled her to file another lawsuit to annul the marriage contract (faskh) with no need for a compensation (to him). This is possible if the other person was not fit for the marriage, with regards to failed marriages in the past.
This nullification will apply if a man lacks the financial means to sustain a marriage or fulfil other duties, or if he mistreats his wife.
