Eta’am, The Saudi Food Bank, has urged the Kingdom to fine people SAR1,000 per one kilo of extra food, after the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) revealed that Saudi Arabia topped the world’s food waste index.
According to Al Arabiya, The Kingdom’s food waste percentage was at 40%.
That’s intense.
Proposals toward wedding halls, restaurants and food preservation enters in Dammam have been submitted by the Saudi Food Bank. The organisation has also called on the ministry to licence agreements between organisations and hotels.
Limiting the amount of food waste starts from these places and enforcing strict fines could aid in decreasing the amount of food wasted in the Kingdom.
