ID Numbers Are No Longer Required To Recharge Phones And We Couldn’t Have Been More Happier

Avatar

In prepaid sim cards, it was mandatory for users to enter their id number to recharge it – an added hassle to get a simple recharge done. This is what was required since the summer of 2012 as the objective was to deactivate illegally obtained prepaid SIM cards.

However, on Wednesday, the Saudi Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) announced that ID numbers would no longer be required.

The move was made so that the spread of unidentified calling cards that many have resorted to can be curbed.

On the other hand, phone bills, internet data packages and paid applications will be more expensive coming this January as they will be applicable to VAT.

So on a 100 SR recharge expect to get 95 SR balance as 5 riyals from it will go towards VAT.
