Just over a year ago, the Saudi authorities carried out a program to flush out illegal expats called a “Nation Without Illegal Expats.” The program saw hundreds of thousands of illegal expats use the grace period provided in it to head out of the country.

However, not all of such illegals used the opportunity to leave the country and continued to overstay. The government began a crackdown on all violators soon after the program ended.

According to Arab News, the total number of illegals nabbed in just over a year totalled 2,626,580.

The breakdown of the violations as per the news report is as follows:

2,046,421 for violating residency regulations

401,804 for labour violations

178,355 for border violations

The crackdown also affected some Saudi citizens, 1,077 to be precise, as they were found to be sheltering visa violators and were duly arrested.
