Saudi Arabia is undergoing several changes and the latest of which is a sweeping reshuffle of the cabinet. The reshuffle was a surprise to many with several key figures being replaced. From ambassadors and governors to long-serving ministers many changes were announced. The only ministries that seemingly weren’t affected by the reshuffle were the finance and energy ministries.

According to Arab News, the cabinet reshuffle was announced by King Salman last night in a televised address.

Among the notable changes included the new Minister of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim Al-Assaf who replaces Adel Al-Jubeir.

The former minister of foreign affairs Al Jubeir has been made Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

New entities like the Space Agency and the General Commission for Exhibitions and Conferences were announced.

The space agency will be led by Prince Sultan bin Salman, who is the first Muslim and Arab to go into space. Prince Sultan Bin Salman was earlier the president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH), which will now be headed by Ahmad Al-Khateeb.

The other key posts that were changed included the Minister of National Guard and the chairman General Entertainment Authority.

Abdullah bin Bandar has been named as the new Minister of National Guard and Turki Al Sheikh was given the post of the chairman General Entertainment Authority. Turki Al Sheikh’s earlier post of chairman of the General Sports Authority has now been handed over to Abdul Aziz bin Turki Al-Faisal.
