Earlier this week, a video has surfaced on social media in which a woman squashes a baby’s face. The video was widely circulated and the internet broke into a fury after seeing it.
According to The Independent, three nurses who worked at the maternity hospital in Taif have been sacked.
In the video, the nurses are heard giggling while one of them commits the act.
The baby’s father told the local media that the baby was in the hospital for ten days undergoing treatment for a urinary tract infection.
Tawfik al-Rabie, Minister of Health, told the Saudi Gazette: “The Health Affairs investigated the source of the video and was able to identify the nurses who appeared in the video and the hospital where the incident took place.”
The nurses were initially suspended while the matter was being investigated. Once the investigation was completed the Ministry of Health announced that the nurses had been fired and their medical licenses revoked.
The official Twitter account of the Ministry of Health tweeted on the incident saying that the nurses’ actions were against the “integrity and safety” of the baby.
