The kingdom is planning to bring in lots of tourists to reduce its dependency on oil. In light of bringing tourists to the country, the kingdom has embarked on an ambitious program that is overseeing sweeping reforms. One of the latest of such is a new set of fines that deal with public behaviour.

According to the Arab News, 10 new rules of public behaviour have been set and those found guilty will be subject to a fine that can go up to SAR 5,000.

The fines are effective starting today.

The rules will be applicable in any public places and were approved by the Saudi cabinet last month. They emphasise good manners and are made to uphold the values and customs of the country.

The kind of things that can get you a fine includes unauthorized graffiti, verbal and physical violence, damage to public property and conduct that is deemed to be a threat to public safety.
