What is (Al Hijri) The Islamic New Year?

If you aren’t familiar with Al Hijri, it is basically an annual commemoration of the amount of years since Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) migrated along with his companions to Madinah, one of Islam’s holiest cities (located in Saudi Arabia.) This was known as the Hijra, giving the new year its name.

The migration took place in the year 622.

So, today marks the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year, and today starts the year 1440.

The start of a new Islamic year brings Muslims around the world a lot of peace and gratitude

Many took it upon Twitter to express just how grateful they are to witness the beginning of the year 1440, complete with prayers and warm wishes.

It has given hope for some Tweeps to restart and renew

Others are taking the moment to appreciate their blessings
