Today’s most significant trending topic on Twitter is also a recurring one, “We are Saudis and proud of our family’s guardianship of us” is the translation to the hashtag that has sparked debate. The heated debate in the Kingdom isn’t the first to take place on social media platform Twitter, as it has become an excellent space for Saudis to express their thoughts.
The meaning behind this hashtag, as seen from a variety of tweets, is pro-guardianship. Meaning, some women don’t mind having family be their guardians.

Not everyone shares this opinion though, due to the recent progression in reforms, many women are also voicing views on why it’s time for them to be independent and how the guardianship system should cease to exist.
#سعوديات_نفخر_بولايه_اهلنا_لنا Saudi or non-Saudi legally women must be equals of men. If women are not the equals of men in personal desicions we cannot logically hold them accountable for legal decisions either! Females have no need for male guarantors.

#سعوديات_نفخر_بولايه_اهلنا_لنا tradtional less educated members of society will try to make this about God. For them it is not a matter of God it is a matter of pride.Women should not be forced to live in the shadows of men to make them feel proud of what is between their legs.

#سعوديات_نفخر_بولايه_اهلنا_لنا Female apologists for the guardianship issue are those who know and feel that they have no access to success and are trying to settle on being considered less important within our society. This is a great stain and gesture of shame on our society.
