The Ministry of Education issued orders on Tuesday to shut down swimming pools without the required safety means in schools across the entire Kingdom.

According to Saudi Gazette, the decision comes following the death of seven-year-old, Mohammed, who tragically drowned at the Al-Namothajeya Al-Ula Primary School in Jeddah.

The victim’s father was called upon by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to hear about the incident involving his son. The prosecutor’s office had asked the father about his demands in order to proceed with his case against the school administration, the education affairs and the lifeguard for not doing their job properly.

SG adds that through thorough investigations, it was discovered that the lifeguard was an older Arab man (in his 50s) who was unfit to the rescue tasks. The father isn’t hesitant to drop the case in order to save more children in the future.

Hence, the Minister of Education Al-Issa acted upon the decision to quickly shut down all school swimming pools that do not have approved security and safety plans.
