While the whole country is welcoming female motorists on the roads, news of a different kind has come in from the northwestern part of the country.

According to web portal Al Bawaba, police officers caught who they taught to be a female driver drifting. Soon they were in for a rude shock as they realized that it was actually a 19-year-old teenager impersonating a woman.

The incident happened in the city of Tabuk, which is located close to the Jordanian border.

The teen along with his accomplice was arrested at the scene. Drifting is a major crime in the kingdom and comes with heavy fines and jail terms.

The spokesperson for the Tabuk Traffic Authority has said that the incident is interpreted as perhaps being a way of defaming women drivers.

On the 24th of last month the decades old women’s driving ban was lifted and women from all across the country hit the streets. Women’s driving is part of the reforms that are being undertaken by the country in its drive to modernize.
