The Government Has Announced An Aim To Eliminate Illiteracy By 2024
On to bigger things this week as Saudi plans to completely wipe off illiteracy by 2024. With programs and conjoined efforts by leaders throughout the years, the rate of illiteracy has been reduced at a larger scale since 1972.

- The Adult Education and Literacy System was announced in 1972, which ultimately lead to the establishment of the General Secretariat for Adult Education and Literacy in 1977.
- Saudi won the King Sejong award for Literacy in 1986.
- The Kingdom won two more awards in 1996 and 1997 for Unesco and Noma Literacy Prize.

Saudi students are going to partake in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) for the first time ever. Additionally, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) will celebrate Arab Literacy Day on January 8.
