The King Salman Royal Nature Reserve Is Planting Half A Million Trees In A Bid To Fight Desertification

Avatar

Established in 2018, the King Salman Royal Nature Reserve (KSRNR) is the largest nature reserve in Middle East and North Africa region. The reserve is has currently begun planting a whopping half a million seedlings.

There are a number of things they’re planning to achieve with this, the foremost of which is to fight desertification.

This demonstrates how serious Saudi Arabia is about achieving its ambitious goals set forth in the Saudi Green Initiative last year.

KSRNR is planting the seedlings in Jubbah and Al-Tubayq stretches in coordination with the National Center for Vegetation Cover and Combating Desertification.

These locations are in the center of migratory paths for many bird species, so adding half a million trees might turn them into biodiversity hotspots.
