The Jeddah Municipality closed 879 food establishments after discovering, through thorough inspection, that it didn’t comply with the Kingdom’s requirements. According to Saudi Gazette, 16 tonnes of expired and rotten food were also confiscated in the duration of these inspections.

The municipality in Jeddah inspected around 5,600 establishments in the food sector, with 1,874 of those resulting in a necessary issuance of warnings for the violation of health requirements.
These inspections took place cafeterias, pastry shops, nut shops, butcheries and glossary shops.
The shops that were asked to shut down were caught violating with selling food (without clarifying its sources), selling rotten food, lack of hygiene, poor storing methods, absence of health IDs and inability to fulfil the requirement for licenses.
