Cardinal Jean Louis Tauran, President of the Pontifica lCouncil for Interreligious Dialogue in the Roman Curia, visited Saudi’s Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology or ‘Etidal’. Tauran’s historic visit to the Kingdom, reported Al Arabiya. 

Etidal’s Secretary General, Dr. Nasser Albuqami, welcomed the Cardinal and his contingents and together they discussed ways in fighting extremist ideology. Etidal has also made it a point to use media and technology to disrupt extremist group recruiting and to spread awareness, tolerance and coevality amongst varied cultures and religion.

Etidal has designed machine learning systems and algorithms to detect violent and extremist on-line content. We analyse this content and then anticipate how extremist groups use this content to recruit vulnerable audiences. To counter these efforts, we devise strategic programs and projects that encourage tolerance and moderation.
