The days of Saudis having to go to neighboring Bahrain and UAE to watch movies will be long gone as Saudi Arabia is soon expected to have its first set of cinema screens in decades.

And, now news has just come in that cinema giant AMC Entertainment has signed a deal to build and operate movie theaters in the Kingdom according to Arab News. The Kansas based company is the biggest cinema operator in the world and most of its cinemas operate under its Odeon brand.

AMC will form a joint venture with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to build and run the cinemas.

But it is not going to be the only one that will set shop in the Kingdom as other international cinema giants are expected to soon follow suit.

Earlier the government has said that it would begin licensing cinemas immediately and the first movie theaters are expected to open in March.

According to the Saudi culture ministry, the country is expected to have more than 2,000 screens and 300 cinemas by 2030, which are expected to a sizeable $24 billion to the economy
