Vendors In Makkah Are Now Being Asked To Stop Selling Souvenirs Of The Kaaba And It Makes Sense Why

Investigations are being done by the Ministry of Commerce and Investment for a campaign against selling souvenirs of the Kaaba, Maqam Ibrahim and Al-Haram Al-Makki due to the ‘preservation of its sanctity.’

Shops have been notified not to sell the souvenirs after inspections took place and some pieces of Al-Haram were confiscated. According to Arab News, many of these stores or souks have coordinated with international factories in selling the souvenirs as it’s profitable. However, economists think that a local antiques and souvenirs section in Makkah and Madinah should create great economic opportunities for the people working there.

Many of these souvenirs do not reflect the extent of attachment and affection. There are some Umrah and Hajj pilgrims, and visitors who are passionately fond of whatever is for sale in Makkah, not to mention if it was like the Kaaba, Maqam Ibrahim or Al-Haram Al-Makki.

An economist said that anything from Makkah should be made there

…so that it will increase the GDP of their economy as well as support Hajj and Umrah’s development and economy.

He added that one of the prospectives for Vision 2030 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is to increase the numbers of Umrah and Hajj pilgrims to 30 million in 13 years.
