With The Print-Version Of The Saudi Gazette Shutdown, The Kingdom Now Has Only One Print Newspaper In English Left

Avatar

You go to the newsstands today and among the many Arabic newspapers that are still in publication, you will find just one English newspaper, Arab News. That is because another iconic English newspaper Saudi Gazette stopped its print run at the end of last month, which ironically was the same month in which the newspaper originally started way back in 1976.

But it isn’t the end of the road for newspapers as more and more of them are shifting to the digital sphere. Saudi Gazette too has now gone fully digital.

As per a GaStat report from January this year, Saudi Arabia has a total of 13 print newspapers.

There was a time here in Saudi when we had three print newspapers, apart from Saudi Gazette and Arab News, we had a newspaper that was very popular in the central region of the country called the Riyadh Daily.

Now, this particular one was one of the first English language newspapers in the country with its first edition being published back in the 60s.

Riyadh Daily too has gone fully digital.
