A video documented by a Saudi citizen on camels being abused in a slaughterhouse was doing the rounds on social media for quite some time. Even the hashtag #camel was trending after the video surfaced.
According to Arab News, the Makkah Municipality has fired the abusive workers who were caught on video committing the horrific act.
The 1-minute 11-second video showed camels being beaten with sticks as they were moved from one place to another. The citizen who was shooting the video even confronted the guard regarding it. The guard replied by saying “Well, you are not that camel, why you are bothered?”
Othman Mali, the spokesman for the Makkah Municipality, said in a statement: “It was decided to exclude the Sudanese guard of the slaughterhouse and all the workers who participated in beating the camels, and decided to prevent them from working in the slaughterhouses of the Municipality.”
In addition to that, the contractor who was running the place was forced to use a crane to transport the camels to the slaughterhouse and penalties and fines will be applied to him according to Othman.
