According to the Daily Sabah, the Saudi Foreign Ministry has taken the decision to prohibit photos and videos in Masjid An Nabawi in Madinah and Masjid Al Haram in Makkah.

The ban was imposed to protect and preserve the holy sites. Another reason cited was that it was a disturbance to other worshipers.

The statement also adds that the tools used to take photos and videos will be confiscated and legal action will be taken against the person who violates the ban.

Adding to that, the ban will not be limited to these two mosques, it will also apply to mosques in the surrounding areas as well.
