Last year has seen many firsts for Saudi women, this year too is proving to be the same.

Till now all air traffic controllers in Saudi Arabia were men but that just changed. Jeddah’s airport is now home to 11 qualified female air traffic controllers.

According to Arab News, Saudi Air Navigation Services (SANS) celebrated the joining of the first batch of Saudi women air traffic controllers.

These women were trained in a one-year course that was jointly conducted by SANS and the Saudi Academy of Civil Aviation.

Arab News also reported that the CEO of SANS, Ryyan Tarabzoni, said the company was prioritizing the hiring of women in the profession.
