The UNESCO World Heritage List is a very prestigious list that reflect on an international cultural dialogue<\/b><\/p>\n

The list consists os sites, all across the world, through a mutual recognition and is one way of interpreting a common human history.<\/p>\n

Saudi Arabia has an impressive six UNESCO World Heritage sites – that reflect, both, on the vast and diverse history of the country but also of the efforts to preserve this history.<\/p>\n

1. \u1e24im\u0101 Cultural Area (2021)<\/h2>\n

The ancient rock inscriptions at Hima in southwest Saudi Arabia have most recently made it to this exclusive list.<\/p>\n

Hima, in the western region of Najran, was a hub for caravans on trade and Hajj routes between the southern parts of Arabia and Mesopotamia, the Levant, and Egypt. Travelers left behind a substantial collection of rock art depicting hunting, wildlife, plants, symbols and tools, and thousands of inscriptions in ancient scripts such as Musnad, Thamudic, Nabataean, and early Arabic.<\/p>\n

Wells in the area date back more than 3,000 years and contain freshwater to this day!<\/p>\n

2. Al-Hijr Archaeological Site (Mad\u00e2in S\u00e2lih)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Just about everyone in Saudi Arabia has, at least, heard of Madain Saleh \u2013 the rocky place near Madina.\u00a0It is an archaeological site located in the sector of Al Ula within Al Madinah Region. It has 131 monumental tombs that have been cut into massive rocks that are a common occurrence in the site. The archaeological site was proclaimed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008<\/p>\n

It became the Kingdom\u2019s first World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n
