The deadly terrorist attacks at the two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand claimed the lives of people from a wide variety of ethnicities and backgrounds, one of whom was a man who hailed from Saudi Arabia. This is his story.

Mohsin Al Harbi moved to New Zealand 25 years ago and worked in water desalination. Quoting his son Feras Al Harbi, Arab News reported that Mohsin was a devout Muslim and at times even gave the Friday sermon at one of the mosques where the shooting took place.

Like other worshippers, he was at the mosque to attend the Friday prayers – this time around though he wasn’t going to give the Friday sermon.

He initially survived the attack with serious injuries and an image of him went viral as he was being carried on a stretcher with his index finger raised towards the sky.

However, a few hours later he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Mohsin’s wife Manal visited the site of the attack and suffered a heart attack seeing the bodies of the victims. She is in critical condition as per the latest media reports.

The company where Mohsin worked posted an emotional message for their colleague on their Facebook page.
