Get ready for a rare and exciting celestial coincidence!

This year, the first day of Ramadan in the Hijri calendar is expected to align perfectly with March 1, 2025, on the Gregorian calendar. How cool is that? According to Eng. Majed Abu Zahra, president of the Jeddah Astronomical Society, this alignment is no ordinary event – it’s a beautiful reminder of how the movements of the moon and earth come together in perfect harmony.

This means the Gregorian calendar will be in sync with the Hijri calendar!

""

Here’s why it’s so special: The Hijri calendar is based on the lunar cycle, with each month starting when the crescent moon is sighted. It’s shorter than the Gregorian calendar, with about 354 or 355 days, which means it moves back by 10 to 12 days each year. This is why Ramadan moves through different seasons over a cycle of about 33 years.

This year, the alignment happens because the lunar and solar cycles are in sync, creating a moment of astronomical harmony

""

According to Abu Zahra, this kind of synchronization is super rare and only comes around roughly every 33 years – and even then, it doesn’t always happen in the same month. This isn’t just a fascinating astronomical event; it also means that for one year, you can count Ramadan days on the Gregorian calendar without any mental math!

Nothing however is confirmed, as the official Moon Sighting committee will finalize the dates once the Ramadan crescent is sighted.

Get ready for a rare and exciting celestial coincidence!
