The Kingdom will soon send a time capsule to the moon, preserving fragments of its culture, innovation, and vision for the future as part of Sanctuary on the Moon, an international project supported by NASA and UNESCO.
The initiative, led by French engineer Benoit Faiveley, aims to create an interstellar archive of human civilization, featuring 24 sapphire discs engraved with art, science, data, and even DNA.
The capsule will land near the moon’s southern pole in 2029, carrying the collective story of humanity, and Saudi Arabia’s contribution will shine as a symbol of cultural depth and modern progress.

Expected inclusions are UNESCO heritage sites like Diriyah and Hima, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s blend of ancient legacy and cutting-edge transformation under Vision 2030.
For Faiveley, the mission is more than science, it’s a message to the future. “It’s a cosmic hello,” he said, “a reminder that we dreamed, created, and built.”
