The awards are hosted by the Atheneum Museum in Chicago, USA, for the best international designs annually.

The jury selected the King Abdullah Financial District Mosque for its engineering innovation in its column-free design and desert flower-inspired shape.

The International Architecture Prize is one of the most important awards in the urban design sector and was established in 2004 by the Chicago Atheneum Museum and the European Center for Geometric Forms, to honor the best modern buildings in terms of planning and engineering designs and to honor the creative architects in their field, and urban planning engineers globally.

And for those who haven’t visited yet, the mosque is an absolute must-visit and truly a marvel of modern-day architecture.
