The campaign is intensifying as the hajj comes closer and closer.

According to the Saudi Gazette, 72,037 people and 32049 vehicles were turned back from various entry points to the Holy City of Makkah as of Friday.

The ban began on the 9th of July and will in place until the end of the Hajj.

The ban is in place as part of the nationwide campaign of deterring pilgrims from engaging in pilgrimage without a hajj permit.

For now, only three categories of expats are being allowed to enter the city, those being the holders of hajj permits, holders of work permits in Makkah for the hajj season and residents of Makkah who have their resident permits issued from Makkah.

Meanwhile the Emirate of Makkah posted on their official Twitter account that registrations for the hajj pilgrimage are still open for residents.
