A decision made by the Sharjah Police will see the current speed limit of 100kmph increase to 120kmph on Sharjah’s Maliha Road.
The centrally located road has undergone extensive road works in order to improve the flow of traffic.
Common practice across the UAE allows a 20kmph ‘buffer’ whereby drivers can go above the speed limit by 20kmph.
This means the new speed limit will actually allow drivers to reach a speed of 140kmph before being fined at 141kmph or above.
Abu Dhabi recently began a campaign to eliminate this speed buffer in order to avoid confusion and reduce road accidents in the Emirate.
