Shemir Vadakkan Pathappiriyam, a Dubai based Indian expat was distraught when he heard about the plane crash in Kozhikode, India. On the plane, were 7 of his family members who were travelling back home due to Shemir’s brothers visa being expired.
According to The Tribune, 41-year-old Shemir, who works as a logistics manager in Dubai Silicon Oasis had been making panic-stricken phone calls since Friday evening to different trauma centres near the crash site to get more information on his family’s whereabouts.
“The news came as a real shock, and we couldn’t contact them for a long time. When I finally managed to speak to my wife, she told me that she and the other family members were rescued by the local people”, Shemir said and thanked the local people who helped rescue his family and everyone else from the crash site promptly.
Flight IX-1344 from Air India which took off from Dubai with 190 people on board skidded on the tabletop runway at Kozhikode airport in Kerala on Friday night while trying to land in heavy rain and fell down into a valley 35 feet below and split into two pieces. There were 18 fatalities, which included the pilot-in-command, Captain Deepak Sathe and the co-pilot Akhilesh Kumar.
