The UAE government is urging all citizens and residents to remain calm and to refrain from going into panic mode with all the news surrounding a new COVID-19 strain, deemed as 70% more transmissible.
Fear-mongering could lead to hyping the severity of the new strain of coronavirus and can mislead the public by giving them false information.
During the UAE government’s media briefing it was advised that the public should continue to take all precautionary measures and avoid spreading unclear news.
The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, (NCEMA) is stressing that the behaviour of the mutated COVID-19 variant is still under study and no conclusions on the genetic makeup of the virus have been reached.
A mutation simply means that a change in the genes of the virus has occurred during the reproduction process, and it is passed on to the new generation of the virus.
Those who fail to comply with the country’s strict COVID-19 regulations will be subject to face a penalty of AED3,000.
