His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah has approved a new health insurance program for Sharjah citizens aged 45 and older. Starting Monday, August 12, 2024, this initiative will provide coverage for treatment at University Hospital Sharjah.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah Health Authority (SHA), announced the program during a recent call to the “Direct Line” program on the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority. The program, developed in collaboration with Mohammed Al Raisi, is estimated to cost Dhs80 million and will cover around 8,000 people.

Eligible beneficiaries will receive an SMS with an electronic link to activate their insurance by submitting personal information and confirming they do not have coverage from another organization in Sharjah. Currently, the Sharjah government insures 118,000 individuals through Al Buhaira National Insurance, including employees and retirees.

The initiative also supports 12,000 Sharjah residents aged 50 and above, including citizens, people with special needs, and those receiving social assistance, ensuring comprehensive healthcare coverage and access to quality medical services at University Hospital Sharjah.
