Following UAE’s role in hosting the IPL, The Board of Control for Cricket in India is proposing to shift the T20 World Cup to the Emirates due to the challenging COVID situation in India.
The Board stated the decision will be made in the next couple of days and will be conveyed to the International Cricket Council, according to Reuters.
While ESPNcricinfo.com already reported that the World Cup will start on October 17 in the UAE, with the finals expected to take place on November 17, according to other sources.
Within the UAE, there are international Cricket grounds in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi where the games could be played.
Other than the IPL, UAE recently hosted 20 matches of the Pakistan Super League including its final.
With the delta strain continuing to spread in India, the board feared that even if they hosted the tournament in the safest manner possible, some countries might ban travel to India.
