On Monday, the horrific news of a flight carrying a bride, her closest friends and an all-female crew crashing in southwestern Iran broke.

No doubt a loss that will be keenly felt by many, the group were returning from a bridal party celebration in Dubai when tragedy struck.

The private plane, which belonged to bride-to-be Mina Basaran, a 28-year-old heiress and daughter of prominent Turkish business man, Huseyin Basaran, departed from Sharjah International in a flight headed for Istanbul at 5.16pm (local time) and disappeared from radars hours later.

No standard maintenance checks before takeoff

In a statement from the Sharjah Civil Aviation Department (SCAD) it’s been confirmed 11 passengers and crew perished in the flight. The department stated the plane did not apply for any maintenance checks while awaiting takeoff at the airport, according to the Khaleej Times.

However, the cause of the accident has yet to be confirmed, the flight did encounter adverse weather conditions.

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the UAE will support the ongoing investigation into the accident.
