Residents living near the  Two Dirhams Center on Al Estiqlal Street, Sharjah and the surrounding area were evacuated after an unidentified case was found by a residential building entrance on Sunday.

Sharjah Police rushed to the scene after a call to the police operations centre  at 8pm warned a suitcase possibly contained a bomb.

The roads opposite Mega Mall were blocked as police, explosives experts, patrols, CID, ambulance, civil defence team and firefighters all arrived to survey the site.

Following an intensive search, Sharjah Police deemed the area safe and the call a hoax. After an inspection the case was found to contain shoes and personal belongings, according to a Khaleej Times report.

The police reached the scene within five minutes and reassured panicked residents the search was routine to ensure the safety of all.
