Sharjah Is Officially Taking To The Skies With A New Study On Air Taxi Routes!

If you’re tired of checking your watch during the morning commute, Sharjah has some news that might just make you look up.

The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) has officially green-lit a study into a modern air transport project, meaning air taxis are no longer just a scene from a sci-fi movie… they’re coming to the Emirate!

During a recent meeting at the Sharjah Ruler’s Office, officials approved a feasibility study to look into air taxi fares and cargo services

The goal is simple but ambitious: to turn Sharjah into a major hub for air connectivity.

By teaming up with top-tier global partners, the city is diving headfirst into the world of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). This isn’t just about looking cool; it’s about sustainability and staying ahead of future tech trends.

Sharjah isn’t the only one reaching for the clouds…

It is now the fourth emirate to announce a roadmap for these electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Here’s how the rest of the neighborhood is shaping up:

  • Dubai: Already building vertiports at Dubai International Airport and the Palm Jumeirah
  • Abu Dhabi: Setting up a network of 10+ vertiports to zip passengers from the airport to the city center
  • Ras Al Khaimah: Planning to slash the hour-long drive to Al Marjan Island down to a breezy 15-minute flight by 2027

With commercial operations across the UAE potentially kicking off as early as 2026, Sharjah is making sure it has a front-row seat (and a landing pad) for the action.

What’s next?

The project is currently in the “study phase,” which means experts are crunching the numbers on how much a ticket will cost and where the hubs should go. But one thing is clear: Sharjah is preparing for a future where the sky is just another lane on the highway.
