Israel Strikes Lebanon Amid Ceasefire Controversy

Israel launched a series of intense airstrikes on Beirut today, targeting multiple areas across the capital and its southern suburbs. Loud explosions echoed throughout the city as thick smoke rose from several locations. Several of the strikes hit busy commercial districts and densely populated neighborhoods, resulting in numerous injuries and casualties. Israel reported striking around 100 sites across Lebanon within ten minutes, calling it the “largest coordinated strike” since the conflict with Iran began.

Netanyahu Denies Lebanon’s Inclusion in Ceasefire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refuted claims made by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that Lebanon would be part of the ceasefire agreement between the US, Israel, and Iran. Shehbaz Sharif had posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday morning that Lebanon would be included, but Netanyahu clarified that the ceasefire applies only to specific areas and does not cover Lebanon.

Iran’s Ceasefire Proposal

Iran’s first 10-point ceasefire proposal included a demand for Israel to stop attacks on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, confirmed this in a statement, highlighting Lebanon’s critical role in the regional situation. The proposal was intended to halt ongoing hostilities and provide a framework for broader stability in the region.

France Calls for Inclusion of Lebanon in Ceasefire

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran but emphasized that it must include Lebanon. Macron raised this point during a meeting with top defense and security officials, signaling international concern over escalating tensions and the potential humanitarian impact on Lebanese civilians.
