Abu Dhabi’s Environment Agency (EAD) has embarked on a significant initiative to map noise levels across the emirate. The project aims to pinpoint sources of noise, identify areas most affected by noise pollution, and collaborate with stakeholders to find effective solutions.
The EAD has established a ‘Noise Committee’ comprising over 10 government entities. This committee will utilize data from the noise mapping project to assist each entity in mitigating noise pollution within their respective sectors.
“We have been monitoring ambient noise in Abu Dhabi since 2007 through our air quality network. This initiative represents our ongoing commitment to enhancing our environment. Our goal is to create a comprehensive noise pollution map that will guide future decision-making,” stated Faisal Al Hammadi, Executive Director of the Environmental Quality Sector at EAD.
By identifying areas with elevated noise levels, health authorities can evaluate potential health risks and implement necessary precautions. Moreover, urban planners can utilize noise modeling to make informed decisions regarding land use and zoning regulations. This approach ensures that sensitive areas such as residential neighborhoods and schools are shielded from high noise sources, including industrial and commercial activities.
The noise mapping initiative underscores Abu Dhabi’s dedication to improving environmental quality and enhancing residents’ quality of life. As the project progresses, stakeholders anticipate significant strides in noise pollution reduction and better urban planning strategies across the emirate.
