A little bit of a backstory for those who might no be aware – Team Angel Wolf is an incredible Dubai based family fitness team made up of Dad Nick, Mum Delphine, son Rio and daughter Tia.
The central inspiration behind this movement is Rio, who has been diagnosed with Q44 Deletion De Novo, which means that he has troubles with walking and speaks through sign language.
The family is known for motivating and encouraging inclusion in sports and it is truly inspiring – they continue to join marathons, duathlons and triathlons runs, swims and cycles every weekend for the last few months.
Recently, the family shared a very moving post on their social media about Rio’s 16th birthday
The post talked about how birthdays may be a difficult time for some families that have children who are differently abled.
“We can’t talk on behalf of other parents that have children with disabilities as their experience may be different to ours; but for us the days leading up to the day is an emotional rollercoaster.”
The post explained how, for their family, birthdays are often a reminder of the expectations of what life ‘should’ have been like versus their reality.
The family spent the birthday weekend in Abu Dhabi and did all sorts of fun things that included a lot of visits to the beach, a race (which Rio LOVES), and a trip to Warner Bros World (which, they stated, was so much sensory fun for Rio).
The story has really moved a lot of people and they are planning to share pictures and videos of the birthday weekend so stay attune of their social media pages.
