This full moon held a unique distinction beyond its beauty; it was the lowest full moon visible in the Northern Hemisphere until the year 2043. Astronomers explained this rare alignment is connected to the Great Lunar Standstill, an event that takes place only once every eighteen point six years.
The moniker ‘Strawberry Moon’ comes from Native American traditions, signalling the period when strawberries become ready for harvest. Despite its name, the moon doesn’t typically turn red, though this year’s viewing offered a fleeting hint of a pinkish colour during moonrise.
